Creative has released the 2.18.0004 driver for the majority of the SoundBlaster X-Fi series under Windows XP and Vista. In particular these drivers add Dolby Digital and DTS decoding and DVD-Audio playback in Vista for cards which supported these features in XP.

Nvidia has released a new Beta Forceware 177.79 driver for Windows XP and Vista. These drivers are only for the GeForce 8, 9 and 200 series graphics cards. These drivers add support for the GeForce 9500GT and 9800GT cards, and contain a range of fixes primarily for GeForce 9 and 200 series cards, as well as performance improvements.

DirectX 11.0

Microsoft has officially announced details of DirectX 11.0, the successor to the current DirectX 10 API. DirectX 11.0 will be backwards compatible with DX 10/10.1 hardware, will be Vista-only, and will allow for a range of additional features including support for tessellation, multi-threaded resource handling improvements and use of the GPU as a parallel processor. A release date is not yet provided.

Nvidia Official Forceware 175.19

Nvidia has re-released the Official Forceware 175.19 drivers for Windows XP. They were initially released on 23 June but the XP version was missing all the game profiles and did not implement per-game Anti-Aliasing properly. Nvidia withdrew them from its site and two days ago re-released them - I can now confirm that both the game profile and AA bugs have been fixed.

It appears that a recent Windows Update (KB951748) causes major Internet connectivity issues on systems using ZoneAlarm security software. Users should either avoid installing this update, or uninstall it if already present, or set their Internet Zone Security permission slider from High to Medium to regain Internet access.
