Max Payne 3 Tweak Guide

The Max Payne 3 Tweak Guide I wrote in early June has finally been published on GeForce.com. I apologize for the embarrassingly long delay, and I hope it will still be of use to a few of you. As noted in an earlier Site Update, the delay was first due to internal clearance protocols at Nvidia. After clearance was given, final publication on GeForce.com was then delayed due to the recent security breaches on the Nvidia site. We aren't expecting a repeat of this sort of delay for publication of future guides.

Mozilla has released Version 14.0.1 of the Firefox browser. The most significant changes include autocomplete capabilities for the Address Bar, the ability to enable a click-to-play opt-in feature for plugins on web pages, changes to the Site Identity indicator in the address bar to prevent favicon spoofing, including moving the favicon to the tab, as well as various bug fixes. Changes include support for new chipsets, improved Nvidia Kepler boost clock detection, added GPU power consumption monitoring for Sandy Bridge & Ivy Bridge, voltage monitoring for the HD 7700 series, as well as various bug fixes.

Today I began the journey towards what will hopefully become The TweakGuides Tweaking Companion for Windows 8. Part of the reason I only just started is that I'm somewhat underwhelmed by the interface changes in Windows 8. While I certainly applaud Microsoft for trying to do something innovative, I find the tabletized Metro UI to be an annoyance on a desktop PC. I get the feeling that Windows 7 will become the next Windows XP, namely a tried-and-true OS which many PC users will stick to for quite a while. However I also recognize that it's precisely because of these potentially unpopular changes to the next version of Windows that users will appreciate any and all assistance in understanding and safely customizing Windows 8 - and that is of course the main aim of the TGTC. With Windows 8 rumored to be publicly released in October, the TGTC for Windows 8 will hopefully be out in November.
As for the game guides, there have been good and bad developments. On the positive side, working with Nvidia has given me access to information, testing data and game developer feedback which I would otherwise not have with anyone else. Nvidia's great relationship with developers is one of the major reasons why I use and genuinely recommend Nvidia graphics cards. On the negative side, Nvidia's internal clearance protocols have at times resulted in lengthy delays. For example, I completed the latest Max Payne 3 Tweak Guide in just over a week after the game's release. However, much to my frustration, the guide has yet to be published. It's not that there's anything wrong with the guide, the delay is purely due to getting final clearance. The people at Nvidia are well aware of how important it is to get a guide out during the period in which most people are playing the game, so we have agreed to work on ways of resolving this issue and speeding up release times. The reality is that without Nvidia sponsorship, it is much less likely that I would be releasing any game guides at all. All I can do is apologize again for the delays.

Nvidia has released the Beta 304.79 graphics driver. This driver is for GeForce 6 and higher desktop cards under Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. It is the first release to provide combined support for Windows Vista, 7 and 8 in one driver package. It also introduces the Nvidia TXAA anti-aliasing feature supported on GTX 600 series GPUs, and has updated SLI profiles and bug fixes. The driver package also contains the 9.12.0604 PhysX drivers.
